We are taking the COVID-19 virus very seriously. At this time William Stanley & Sons Paving will remain open to meet the needs of our clients. However, we will be taking the following actions to minimize the risk associated with the virus:

  •  If you are having any paving concerns, we are always happy to address them by email or over the phone.
  • We will do our best to adhere to the 6-foot social distancing mandate when our crew and contractors arrive to perform an estimate or paving service.

We appreciate your understanding during this very challenging time and are grateful to our clients for helping us take precautions. Please know that we will continue to monitor developments and will communicate with you as necessary.

Thank you for your help and understanding.

Sincerely,

What are the Benefits of Seal Coating Asphalt?

By | Seal Coating | No Comments

portland seal coatingYou know that feeling you get when you’re driving and your tires transition from a rough patch of road to a smooth asphalt surface? Even if you didn’t observe how rough the terrain was initially, you’re sure to notice the contrast of the smooth and quiet surface.

While seal coating alone can’t restore degraded asphalt, it can go a long way toward making sure the pavement doesn’t deteriorate in the first place. Though it might entail a slightly larger investment in the short term, you’ll save money in the long run.

And that’s not all. We’ve identified five benefits of asphalt seal coating that will make you think twice before leaving your surfaces unprotected.

1. Extends the Life of Your Pavement

Smooth pavement surfaces can last up to 25% longer than a rough pavement. Depending on the climate and the traffic on your roadway or parking lot, the difference can be quite dramatic.

Keep in mind that your asphalt is exposed to the elements 24/7. It can degrade from:

  • Weather conditions such as rain, snow, ice, and sunlight
  • Chemicals that stain or corrode the surface like oil, gas, and other corrosives
  • Wear and tear from traffic, particularly the weight of vehicles
  • Erosion from power washing and other high-impact procedures

2. Creates a Positive First Impression

If you’re a business owner, do you want your customers and clients to pull into your parking lot or driveway and notice how rundown and cracked the asphalt is? Of course not! As a credible business owner, having a well-maintained parking lot and entrance adds to your credibility.

Conversely, poorly maintained pavement might make potential clients think twice about doing business with you, especially if your product or service comes with a premium price.

3. Safety

An asphalt sealcoating helps to make the surface of the pavement slip resistant. This is important if you are a business and people are walking through your parking lot. Oil from leaking vehicles can collect on the surface and cause pedestrians to slip and fall.

Further, but if your pavement cracks because it’s not sealed, then it can form an uneven surface with cracks and holes that can cause trips and falls.

Another safety consideration has to do with the visibility of lines. If you have a thoroughfare with lanes or a parking lot with line markers, then having visible cues is crucial.

4. Easier to Maintain

Because seal coating creates a smooth surface, it’s easier to maintain and keep clean. It’s much less of a hassle to sweep a uniform surface than a rough or jagged one. Sweeping your driveway or parking lot now becomes a simple and satisfying task instead of a dreaded chore that can never be truly finished.

5. Aesthetically Pleasing

A new seal coat provides a rich black luster to a pavement surface. Frankly, it looks nice! As you travel up your driveway, doesn’t it feel good to see fresh black asphalt instead of cracked, dingy pavement?

Think of sealing your asphalt as the equivalent of painting your home. If you leave the wood naked and exposed, it’s going to deteriorate, and frankly, it won’t look nearly as nice. By protecting your asphalt with a protective seal coating, you’ll extend the life of your pavement and your property will also look better for it.  If you are looking for an affordable way to extend the life of your parking lot or driveway or have any questions about asphalt; contact us online and one of our professional paving contractors will be glad to give you a free estimate and consultation.

A Good Asphalt Paving Job vs. A Bad Asphalt Paving Job

By | Driveway Paving | No Comments

When it comes to paving jobs, most people are primarily concerned with the way that it looks upon completion. If the finished paving job looks great, it is easy to fall into the trap of believing that it has been done correctly. However, there is more to a good asphalt paving job than initially meets the eye. In this post, we will be showing you how to spot the difference between a job well done and one that hasn’t been completed with quality in mind.

Some Things to Look for During the Job

When you are in the beginning stages of hiring somebody to do asphalt paving work, some things will tell you right of the bat if you’re likely to receive a quality job. Asphalt contractors who are just out to make a quick buck will neglect to pay attention to the small details. To avoid working with a company like this, you should make sure that your paving contractor offers all the services mentioned below.

A Thick Asphalt Overlay: Ideally, the company should have a standard of setting down at least two inches of asphalt. Some companies will only use one inch in an attempt to save money, which leads to premature cracking and poor stability beneath the surface. If you hire a company that only uses one inch of asphalt, it is a sign that you are likely to get a lousy paving job.

A Seamless Transition: A good paving contractor will ensure that the new layer of asphalt blends smoothly with the old coating. This is particularly important when it comes to driveway paving. Asphalt driveways that do not have a smooth transition from the driveway to the main road can be bumpy and unpleasant to drive on. Once the job is done, look over this section of the driveway and ensure it is free of bumps.

Water Drainage Technology: Water has the power to erode asphalt quickly. This can have disastrous consequences and lead to structural damage. If you find that water is pooling in your parking lots or other paved surfaces, it is likely that your contractor did not follow proper drainage protocol.

Taking the Time to Prime: Applying primer after a fresh coat of asphalt is an important step. It assists the new layer that has been put down with correctly adhering to the surface on which it was applied. Without the proper application of primer, you may find your new paving job crumbling over the top of the old asphalt underneath.

If you are looking for a Portland asphalt paving company, take the time to ensure they offer all the things listed above. This process will set you up for receiving a paving job that’ll last for years to come. Otherwise, you may find yourself at the hands of a bad contractor who will leave you disappointed and with wasted money. Whether it’s a large project or simple driveway paving, William Stanley & Sons Paving we take the measures necessary to ensure that you get a good asphalt paving job.
